Mugshots Sustainability Lineup is a monthly series designed to engage and educate community members into action through interactive workshops and discussions. Each workshop will take place on the first Wednesday of the month at our Fairmount location and feature an expert speaker who will guide participants in how to make practical changes to make their home and community more sustainable. Green Roofs and their Importance for a Sustainable City
Wednesday, September 1st
6:30pm: Pre-Event Meet & Greet
7pm: Workshop begins We hear a lot about green roofs, but why are they important and how can you turn your roof green? Michele Dixon will explain what green roofs are and their significance to helping create a more sustainable city, especially in terms of clean water. She'll discuss her own experiences building a green roof at a local elementary school, build a green roof model with workshop participants, and offer ideas on how to create a green roof of your own! Michele Dixon is an Elementary science teacher at a public school in West Philadelphia who primarily focuses her curriculum around environmental science. She has partnered with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, The Water Department, Earthforce, and Home Depot to secure resources to fund projects at her school. The recent Green Roof project was funded by American Hydrotech Company.

At the young age of 29, Tyesha Love was a full-time college student, a single mother of two, and had just been diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. Three years later, Tyesha is breast cancer survivor. Mugshots welcomes you to join us for this real look at the impact of breast cancer on one young woman's life and share with us her courage and dedication to fighting cancer for herself and all women. A percentage of proceeds from book sales will be shared with various cancer organizations, including the University of Pennsylvania’s Pink Ribbon Committee for Breast Reconstruction.
