Fairmount - Artist Opening - Project Home - View info
Meet the Artists of Project Home, showing their work this month in Fairmount! Project H.O.M.E.'s formerly homeless residents include individuals with mental illness and those in recovery from substance use disorders. These individuals are the target participants for Project H.O.M.E.'s Art Program. Regularly schedules art classes are also open to members of the St. Elizabeth's/Diamond Street neighborhood, a low-income community that we partner with, as well as individuals who are currently homeless. Many participants are gifted artists with talent that would go entirely unrecognized and untapped without the opportunities provided by Project H.O.M.E. The classes provide participants with a much-needed creatve outlet, as well as an opportunity to showcase their talents and increase their levels of confidence. Every year, the artists, members of the public, as well as friends and visitors of Project H.O.M.E. attend the Annual Art Exhibit and quarterly Art Shows put on by the Art Program. Resident art is hung and displayed and if the artist so desires, is offered for sale, creating and entrepreneurial opportunity for artists. The exhibit and shows are open to the public, offering a unique way for the Project H.O.M.E. community to engage with the larger community. Artists are also invited to submit designs for holiday cards, some of which are produced and sold as a fundraiser each year. These art programs benefit not only the participating artists, but the entire community as well, working to break down the boundaries that divide us from one another. During the year, Project H.O.M.E. proudly displays the artwork of its residents throughout its facilities, giving our artists yet another opportunity to show their work and be valued for their contruibutions. Art classes, Art Exhibits, and other events are key componetns of Project H.O.M.E.'s approach to creating pathways out of poverty, promoting independence and self-esteem.
